First Day of Winter Arrives in Oakville

Oakville’s First Day of Winter

Oooh, blustery, snowy – how about 8 degrees C! Oakville so far has escaped any semblence of winter with cool fall temperatures, but
no snow other than a light dusting that melted as fast as it fell a few nights ago.

Oakville Winter 2011-2012The first day of winter and the snowblowers are safely stored in the local garages. The snow removal companies that got a few hundred bucks for the season are also pretty happy going into the holidays. Even the Towne’s budget for snow clearing may be in good shape this year, although we still have many months of potential snowfall to come. It is easy to be giddy when there is no inconvenience at all to go holiday shopping and get around town as needed.

Sometimes it is really nice to have a white Christmas though, and there is a forecast for a light snow-rain mix on Christmas Day, but there will not be any blanket of snow, or bobsledding as winter begins in Oakville. Up north there may be some of the white stuff, but Southern Ontario seems to be heading for 2012 with no snow. The ski operators may be wishing for a little more during the holiday season to avoid cancellations.

Unlike Oakville, Canada, Colorado and a few surrounding states recently got slammed with a big snowstorm that inhibited travel and dumped several feet of snow. Great news for the ski resorts in the Rockies. So there is plenty of snow in some of the States, but we get to enjoy fall-like conditions a little longer.
