Money Sense Magazine ranked Burlington as the top GTA location in Canada’s Best Places to Live 2014. It came in 5th in Canada overall – with Ottawa taking the top Ontario spot at number 4. Oakville was not far behind – capturing 7th place.
Oakville is definitely one of the most affluent cities in Canada with the average household income at $145,094. The survey reports the average house price in Oakville as $692,902 and the average household net worth at $948,281.

The only cities in the top 200 that topped Oakville for net household income were Wood Buffalo, Alberta with $187,772 and West Vancouver, British Columbia with $180,205. West Vancouver has, by far, the highest net household worth at $2,729,123 and average home value of $1,639,337. The home prices may explain the high net worth, but it only ranked 36th in Canada’s best places to live.
