Back to School in Oakville Ontario

Today, Tuesday is back to school for most kids in Oakville after the long weekend.  For some it was the start of a new school and new classmates, while others will see familiar faces again this year.

The new Garth Webb High School is just opening its doors and welcoming new students today with a late-morning bar-b-que!  That will keep the summer spirit alive and welcome them to the new high school.  Currently, the school is only open to 9th and 10th grade students, so there should be a total of just under 400 students with more 9th graders than 10th graders at the new school.

A recent tour of the new facility was very impressive with lots of big windows and natural light, a school cafeteria, a very large drama department with multi-level viewing and a nice stage and convertible auditorium.  The architecture has surprises on every floor and even the exterior has various different looks, colours and materials.  The parking lot has been completed but the gymnasium will take another month to complete.

That is typical for schools that are just being built as the same thing happened at the recently built Palermo elementary school.

This year, Garth Webb high school has selected “Chargers” as their team mascot and team name.

The St. Ignatius of Loyola  school on Upper Middle is also completely remodelled with beautiful large windows. The home of the Hawks has re-opened this fall at 1550 Nottinghill Gate in Oakville.

The St. Mary school in Bronte Creek is another new Catholic school opening to students.

For all the kids in Oakville, have a great school year 2012-2013!
