Oakville Santa Claus Parade 2011

Posted by on October 14, 2011

The Santa Clause Parade returns to Oakville on November 19, 2011.  This will be the 63rd annual event for our city and the theme is “All I Want for Christmas”.   The Santa Claus parade is a tradition for many Oakville families and visitors.  The parade starts at 9 am at the corner of Lakeshore Road and Reynolds.  From there, the parade route continues west on Lakeshore to Kerr street where it heads north.  The parade ends at Kerr and Stewart streets.

The parade signals the start of the holiday season for most.  The weather is always an unknown factor – from sunny ‘sweater’ days to cold wet and windy – but it can’t dampen the spirits of the revellers waiting for a glimpse of the man in red.

A maximum of 50 entries can join the parade and space is still available.  Many entries join year after year, but the organizing committee  urges all groups, charities, schools and service clubs to get involved and enter a float. Last year, White Oaks and Oakville Trafalgar Robotics team won best school floats.  Originality and creativity are key to  win  the coveted title of best float.  The grand prize is $500.

Anyone interested in getting involved with the parade, either entering a float or volunteering, can get more information at  www.oakvillesantaclausparade.ca .  You can also leave at message at (905) 815-5981.

The parade is usually a bonus for downtown Oakville businesses and restaurants, with spectators in the mood for a little early shopping and lunch.  It is a great way to spend a Saturday in November and great memories for the kids.
