Oakville Olympians in the London Spotlight – Let the Games Begin

Let the games begin as Oakville and Burlington Olympians represent Canada at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Adam van Koeverden will compete in his kayak, Doug Csima is a rower and Mark Oldershaw will compete in his canoe.   Sinead and Colin Russell along with Tera Van Beilen will compete in swimming events.  Diana Matheson is on Canada’s Olympic soccer team along with Melanie Booth as an alternate.

The women’s soccer team was defeated by Japan 1-2 before the opening ceremonies. Canada plays Russia on Saturday, July 28 while the U.S.A. plays Columbia.  Canada then goes on to play Sweden on July 31 at 9:30 a.m. in the women’s Group F at the same time Japan squares off against Russia.
Quarterfinals are on August 3 and Semis are on August 6 with the Women’s gold medal match taking place August 9 at 2:45 p.m.

Adam van Koeverden  (30 )  will compete in: K-1 1,000-metre sprint.
The final in this event is scheduled for Wed., Aug. 8.
Adam can reflect back when he first began kayaking at the Burloak Canoe Club in 1995 when he was just 13 years old.

Opening Ceremonies for the London 2012 Olympic Games were held today.  Enjoy this Olympiad and root for Canada!
